JOSE LOPEZ-EGUINO
FIGHTING FOR IMPERIAL BEACH
FOR IMPERIAL BEACH CITY COUNCIL · DISTRICT 1
Jose Lopez Eguino is a community organizer running to work with his neighbors for an Imperial Beach where families have safe, dignified and affordable housing, residents can enjoy clean air and water, and everyone can thrive.
WHAT WE’RE FIGHTING FOR
HOUSING & TENANT PROTECTIONS
Safe, dignified and affordable housing, strong protections for renters, and support for neighbors facing displacement.
CLEAN AIR, CLEAN WATER & THE TIJUANA RIVER SEWAGE CRISIS
Protecting our coast, addressing the Tijuana River sewage crisis, and making sure Imperial Beach families can breathe clean air and enjoy clean water.
COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT
A City government that works alongside residents, listens to neighborhoods, and makes decisions with the community, not for it.

ORGANIZING INTO ACTION
CHANGE HAPPENS WHEN NEIGHBORS ORGANIZE TOGETHER.
Jose has spent nearly a decade organizing with residents across Imperial Beach, San Ysidro, Chula Vista and National City—turning neighborhood concerns into real changes.
- Working with neighbors to win investments like stop signs, streetlights, playground equipment, a gazebo and a BBQ pit.
- Standing with families at the Siesta Mobile Home and RV Park facing eviction in 2019.
- Organizing with tenants for local and state protections against rent hikes and unjust evictions.
- Helping lead a 2024 Imperial Beach effort that collected more than 1,300 signatures for local rent control and just-cause protections.

Jose’s Story
South Bay Roots

Jose grew up in the South Bay, attending VIP Village, Berry Elementary, Southwest Middle School, and Southwest High School. Imperial Beach was his local beach—he remembers skating to IB to visit the skate park, beach, and Surf Hut. Those formative years ingrained a deep love for the families and community that make our region special.
Imperial Beach is Home
Jose and his family have lived in Imperial Beach for nearly six years. He and his partner are raising three children here—two of whom were born in their home. As a parent, he sees the challenges Imperial Beach families face every day and is committed to building a city where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

From Neighbor to Organizer
In 2015, Jose joined the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE) as a resident organizing for improvements in his own neighborhood. Working alongside neighbors, he helped win changes like a stop sign, streetlights, and playground equipment. In 2017, he became a full-time community organizer, spending nearly a decade turning neighborhood concerns into real legislative change across the South Bay.
